Windyty – a website that shows you live animation of what the wind is doing all around the world.
For those of us who find weather forecasts boring, with the old-fashioned weather charts and radar views, then Windyty is a great alternative. With it’s browser-based meteorological tool showing the world’s wind patterns in a beautiful and useful way, it’s a great website. Windyty was developed by Ivo, a pilot and a kite surfer from the Czech Republic, who used an open source code from the Earth project.
the map looks best in a smaller scale with mesmerizing swirls
Essentially, windyty is a map of winds you can choose to overlay with weather conditions such as humidity, temperature and pressure zones. Click on the map and you get detailed local forecast for the spot you are looking at or zoom in up to the street level to get more details. But the map looks best in a smaller scale with mesmerizing swirls which help you understand why it is going to be unusually blustery or calm on any given day. The page works on both your desktop and phone. An app for iPhone is currently in beta testing mode, and an app for Android is available here on Google Play.
